... compare & contrast ... an exercise

a nation with 'Christian' leadership.

Top Court Upholds Kansas Death Penalty Law

a nation with 'christian' leadership.

"Philippines Abolishes the Death Penalty"

are you a "Christian" or a "christian"?

something to think about ...

"never return evil with evil, but return evil with love." jesus said that.

"thou shall not kill." god gave that law to moses.

That's one hell of an odd ruling from the supreme court! Surely you'd want to err on the side of caution?

Mind you, capital punishment doesn't make much sense in the first place.

I don't understand the distinction between an upper-case "Christian" and a lower-case "christian" Is that an academic distinction, or a distinction that you have given name to?

Last time I checked America wasn't a theocracy, and I didn't think that the Phillipines was a particularly christian nation. But maybe I need to look into it more.

yossarian ... not so odd given the current court and their 'religious' leanings.

anton ... the play on the capitalization of the words comes from the change (and, yes, in law, capitalization plays a big role in the meaning of words) of "united states of America" which is the original name of our country, and the "United States of America" which it was changed to with the adaption of several laws and a the new Constitution which occurred during the Civil War. The Constitution after the Civil War is not the governing law of the land, as our Supreme Court pointed out quite remarkably last summer. The change happened due to several acts passed by the newly seated Congress and President Lincoln during the Civil War created a new nation-state now named the "United States of America"; inasmuch as the "united states of America" no longer existed after the withdrawal of several of the member states and the permanent adjournment of the Congress following their succession.

I use "Christian" to identify people who claim the principles of christianity under the teachings and philosophies of jesus, and use "christian" to those who just happen to live the teachings and philosophies of jesus and/or adhere to the 10 commandments. a subtle yet profound difference.

as for a 'theocracy,' when we passed the Coin Act in 1864, i do believe we did become a theocracy.

but that's just my opinion.

i do know what the United States of America is currently doing is remarkably similar to every single grievance that the founding fathers listed in the Declaration of Independence; and that their acts violate the Constitution and the Bill of Rights of the original nation-state the united states of America.

i also know that what is being done by the leadership and government of this nation is anything but christian.

The USA or the us of A in any form affects everyone here. Larry wrote "When I write that the Chinese name for the USA is The Beautiful Country, nobody seems to mind. Pardon me, but Beautiful is an inviting name." http://connectinginconversation.org/larrydunbar/2006/06/21/level-one/#comments
"Better to be inviting, rather than invisibleā€ reverberates yet again, only love will help.
