jews for jesus

wow ... met one of those tonight ...
don't ever have to do that again.

at the monthly street art festival, my daughter and i sitting on a curb eating a hotdog ... we saw them walking around ... they had these t-shirts on "JEWS FOR JESUS." me, i was armed with my "Who Would Jesus Bomb Button", as always.

so we were chilling and eating and mostly people were ignoring us, but i caught this woman's eye so she walked over to us to hand us a pamphlet ...

having my hands full of hotdogs, i just looked at her and asked her what it was about ...

'jesus can save your life ...' oh really, i thought. i asked her, 'so, how do you feel about the israeli bombing last night?'

'what bombing?' she asked.

'israel bombed palestine last night.' i replied.

'palestine is not a country.' was her answer.

'thank you,' i said, 'i don't need that.'

'god loves you,' she said over her shoulder as she walked away, 'jesus died for you.'

i just replied, 'god loves everyone and jesus died for himself.' but i must admit that i was PISSED OFF at her and my remark was more catty than informative, and definitely not filled with the love, peace or harmony i wished to exhibit in this world. BUT JUST SOMETIMES IT JUST MAKES ME SO ANGRY HOW THEY RESPOND WITH THESE 'STOCK ANSWERS' ... not even knowing what they are saying or what they mean ... as if the people who died from the bombing cared whether or not we recognized the validity of their nation-state ....

i sat perplexed at that for a moment and the let it go off into the ether as the dj shifted the music and lifted the beat and the harmony to a different key, i finished my hot dog, and said a silent prayer for those who died and those who killed ... then i went and danced with my little one down the street in the opposite direction.

peace & harmony,
elaine

Interesting story.

I once wanted to become a christian, and contacted an organisation chapter called the Campus Crusade for Christ. I hoped to find many of my answers. I found none.

What I learnt was just this: praise jesus for he is the savior. Sing the glory of god. Faith, praise, glory, and so many similar words, yet not a single answer to Why? Why should I care about the death of a man 2000 years ago? Why should i sing his praises just because it would "save" me? What do you mean by "saving" anyway?

I had a number of questions, but i never found a satisfactory reply. All i was given were stock answers to the concept of suffering, meaningless opinions without any basis or logic on a wide variety of issues. What i found was a faith that simply asked for blind acceptance.

Admittedly, that is what most people would want.just to be shown the way, not caring where they went. I could not accept that, for i wanted to be able to trust and believe in my own religion. I did not want to be led, i simply wished a crutch so i could walk on my own.

So I became an atheist. Maybe it was because i was not born as a christian. Maybe that is why i questioned those beliefs.

I apologise for the long rant, and if i offended you in any way. This was an insightful blog.

Stock answers are provided at initiation. ;) It seperates the followers from the believers, the wise from the weak, the petty from the provident.

Comments such as 'you will be saved' only demonstrates a lack of understanding...

Haha! I love it... and yes, you are so right. These people aren't even thinking! Just pat answers to serious problems, and that's the problem with 99% of people who just accept what is told to them without really questioning what is being said. So frustrating. This is the #1 reason why I don't care for religion! At least there are people like Colbert out there...

BTW, thanks for the nice comments on my blog! Peace...

Title: Starman

Goodbye love
Didn't know what time it was the lights were low oh how
I leaned back on my radio oh oh
Some cat was layin' down some rock 'n' roll 'lotta soul, he said
Then the loud sound did seem to fade a ade
Came back like a slow voice on a wave of phase ha hase
That weren't no d.j. that was hazy cosmic jive

There's a starman waiting in the sky
He'd like to come and meet us
But he thinks he'd blow our minds
There's a starman waiting in the sky
He's told us not to blow it
Cause he knows it's all worthwhile
He told me:
Let the children lose it
Let the children use it
Let all the children boogie

I had to phone someone so i picked on you ho ho
Hey, that's far out so you heard him too! o o
Switch on the tv we may pick him up on channel two
Look out your window i can see his light a ight
If we can sparkle he may land tonight a ight
Don't tell your poppa or he'll get us locked up in fright

There's a starman waiting in the sky

He'd like to come and meet us
But he thinks he'd blow our minds
There's a starman waiting in the sky
He's told us not to blow it
Cause he knows it's all worthwhile
He told me:
Let the children lose it
Let the children use it
Let all the children boogie

Starman waiting in the sky
He'd like to come and meet us
But he thinks he'd blow our minds
There's a starman waiting in the sky
He's told us not to blow it
Cause he knows it's all worthwhile
He told me:
Let the children lose it
Let the children use it
Let all the children boogie
